OK, we get it. You don’t like to be the center of attention. You have probably been talked into going to our events by one of your extroverted friends. You may have asked if you can “just watch.” Sorry, but that is not possible. But relax, this event won’t be as horrible as you may have imagined.
First of all, select a minor character or bit part. If you don’t select a major character, you probably won’t be a suspect, and you won’t have people grilling you about what your character has been doing.
A good example is at the rock-and-roll party. Let’s pretend you took the part of Eddie the Electrician. What your character summary would say is that you are the electrician who sets up the stage. You don’t know the rock star. The only people you know are the few guys who work with you. That’s all you need to know.
Other than at the beginning of the party when we ask you to introduce yourself in character, you don’t have to do anything special. You can hang out at the bar and watch the other extroverts go at it. Nobody is going to make you sing, dance, or give a speech.
So, as we said, relax. Nobody is going to make you do a bunch of silly stuff. All we ask is that you stay in character and leave your real identity outside.
